ACT Fire & Rescue has deemed the National Press Club safe for patrons and staff to return.
Firefighters found a fault in the lift caused smoke which prompted an evacuation.
Approximately 100 people have evacuated from the National Press Club in Barton.
ACT Fire & Rescue are on scene investigating.
