Statement from the ESA Commissioner - Georgeina Whelan

On Monday 21 October 2019, there was a motor vehicle incident at the intersection of Brisbane Avenue and Bowen Drive that involved an ACT Fire & Rescue crew who were responding to a fire alarm.

The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) extend our deepest sympathies to the victim's family and friends.

Our thoughts are also with the firefighters and paramedics who responded, and the other ESA personnel who attended the scene.

ESA personnel will be provided with continuous support including; Peer Support Officers, Chaplains, Employee Assistance Program providers, immediate assistance and ongoing support from ESA management and peers.

In the short time I have held the appointment of ESA Commissioner I have been impressed by the commitment and work ethic of our first responders.

ESA is cooperating with ACT Policing who are investigating the incident. As the matter is currently under investigation it would be inappropriate for ESA to comment further.
