ACT Ambulance Service (ACTAS) and ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) have now left the scene of a serious incident at Cooleman Court, Weston, following a vehicle collision into a local business earlier today.
Emergency services were called to the incident at approximately 11:45 am. As a result of the collision, several people inside the premises were affected, including three people who became trapped beneath the vehicle. ACTF&R crews successfully extricated the trapped individuals, enabling ACTAS paramedics to provide urgent medical treatment.
Five patients were transported to hospital by ACTAS. While two patients sustained serious injuries, all five patients were reported to be in stable conditions.
This has been a significant and traumatic incident for those directly impacted, their families and loved ones, as well as members of the local community who witnessed the event.
The ACT Emergency Services Agency acknowledges the exceptional professionalism, skill and teamwork demonstrated by all first responders. The swift and coordinated efforts of ACTAS paramedics, ACTF&R firefighters and ACT Policing officers played a significant role in the outcome of what was a very serious incident.
We also extend our sincere thanks to members of the Weston community for their patience, understanding and support throughout the response. The cooperation shown by local businesses, residents and bystanders greatly assisted emergency services as crews worked to treat patients and manage the scene.
ACT Policing remains on scene and is expected to continue its investigation for some time. Further information regarding the circumstances of the incident will be provided by ACT Policing. ACT Policing has confirmed the incident is not being treated as an intentional act.
