In a life threatening emergency dial Triple Zero (000)
ACT Fire & Rescue (ACTF&R) have responded to a fire at Mawson Southlands Shopping Centre with four pumpers, aerial appliance, hazmat, breathing apparatus unit, Commander, Superintendent and Chief Officer. The fire is producing a significant amount of smoke and ACTF&R advise residents within the vicinity of Mawson Southlands Shopping Centre and Woden Town Centre to remain indoors.
Smoke particles can aggravate existing lung conditions, such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma as well as some cardiac conditions. Symptoms can occur for several days after exposure, so people with the above conditions need to be vigilant with their treatment programs.
If you have asthma or a lung condition and you develop symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing or wheezing, follow your personal Asthma or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Plan.
