A maintenance worker at Capital Chilled Foods on Mildura Street rang Emergency Triple Zero (000) at 9:37 this morning after being alerted to ammonia leaking from a storage tank.
Firefighters arrived a short time later from the nearby Fyshwick Fire Station and discovered the leak was the result of a faulty valve which they were able to temporarily repair to reduce the amount lot of gas leaking from the tank.
Fire crews are currently ventilating the building with a contractor called in to replace the faulty valve.
There was no one inside the factory when the leak occurred.
