Woman in hospital after kitchen fire

A woman with minor smoke inhalation has been taken to Calvary Hospital for treatment.

The resident rang Emergency Triple Zero (000) after oil caught alight whilst she was cooking.

The woman self-evacuated before ACT Fire & Rescue and the ACT Ambulance Service arrived at Sanford Place in Kaleen.

Two pumpers, the Hazardous Materials Unit, Breathing Apparatus Van and a commander attended the scene.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire quickly and there was minimal damage to the kitchen.

Atmospheric testing is being undertaken and units will leave the scene shortly.
