Three hazard reduction burns this weekend in the ACT

Tomorrow, Saturday 31 August, 2013, weather permitting, The ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) will conduct two hazard reduction burns at Mitchell and Barton, with a private landholder also conducting a hazard reduction burn at Higgins.

Tomorrow, the ACTRFS Gungahlin Brigade will conduct three small pile burns near Thoroughbred Park on the corner of Randwick and Flemington roads, Mitchell.

The time of the burn will be approximately 10am to 5pm.

Two heavy tankers, one medium tanker, one command vehicle and 12 personnel will conduct the burn.

The ACT Handy Map grid locations for the Mitchell burn is L10.

Also tomorrow, the ACTRFS Jerrabomberra Brigade will conduct a hazard reduction burn on the corner of Kings Ave and Bowen Drive, Barton.

The time of the burn will be approximately 10am to 2pm.

One heavy tanker, one light unit, one command vehicle, one Compressed Air Foam System Unit and eight personnel will conduct the burn.

The size of the burn will be approximately four hectares of native grasses.

Also, tomorrow and Sunday 1 September, 2013, a private landholder will conduct a series of pile burns near the intersection of Drake Brockman and Kingsford Smith Drives, Higgins.

The ACT Handy Map grid location for the Higgins burn is J11.

Temporary smoke cover may occur. Every effort is made to conduct the burns in
weather conditions that will minimise the impact of smoke in the area.

The Health Directorate advises that people with asthma, other chronic respiratory
and/or chronic cardiac diseases should not perform vigorous exercise and should stay
inside if affected by the smoke. People with asthma in particular should continue their
medication and consult their general practitioner if they have any difficulties.
