Hazard Reduction

There are a number of things that residents can do to minimise the risk of damage in a storm, flood or fire.

During the warmer months property owners can be faced with heavy rain and hail as well as the threat of bushfires.

An untidy yard and cluttered gutters can be disastrous.  Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and extensive property damage if homeowners are unprepared.

However, if residents take the following very simple precautions, the risk of damage will be minimised:

- Clear gutters, downpipes and drains of any leaf litter or rubbish

- Ensure tree branches are trimmed clear of homes and powerlines

- Replace cracked or damaged tiles

- Clear up loose objects around the property

- Have a home emergency kit ready including torch, radio and spare batteries

SES volunteers can provide emergency help and temporary relief to owners whose properties have suffered damage during a flood or storm event.
