Training - Brigade Officer
General issues
Brigade Officers are experienced bush fire fighters with superior competence in bush and grass fire fighting, and a high level of skill in people management. Brigade Officers have the responsibility for leading crews at a fire or other incident. The prerequisites for advancment to this level are:
- Having been at the Advanced Bushfire Fighter level for at least three years;
- Attended appropriate bushfire responses or hazard reduction burns; and
- Have the endorsement of the Chief Officer for appointment as a Brigade Officer.
Competencies
To achieve the Brigade Officer level, members must be assessed as competent in the following:
- Develop incident control strategies;
- Maintain safety at an incident scene;
- Lead, manage, and develop teams;
- Supervise response; and
- Conduct briefings and debriefings
