Fire Brigade Stations

Fyshwick Fire Station (No. 1)

Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Bronto Aerial Platform, Heavy Water Tanker, Utility, HazMat Response Vehicle, Decontamination Trailer, and Mobile Canteen.

Ainslie Fire Station (No. 2)

Location: Wakefield Avenue, Ainslie

Opened: 1979
Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Heavy and Light Bushfire Tankers, and Breathing Apparatus Support Vehicle.

Phillip Fire Station (No. 3)

Location: Corner of Hindmarsh Drive & Botany Street, Phillip

Opened: 2 May 1969 by The Hon Peter Nixon, Minister for the Interior
Vehicles: Heavy Rescue Pumper, Emergency Support Vehicle, and
Urban Search & Rescue trailer.

Phillip Fire Station was extended in 1989. Its primary response area includes Woden Valley and half of Weston Creek.

As a heavy rescue station Phillip responds to all road accident rescues south of Lake Burley Griffin and will respond to calls north of the lake if required. Because of the heavy rescue capabilities it is a requirement that the Station Officer and two Firefighters have Stage III Road Rescue Training.

Belconnen Fire Station (No. 4)

Kambah Fire Station (No. 5)

Opened: 22 October 1979 by The Hon. R J Ellicot QC MP
Vehicles: MK III Pumper, Remote Area Road Rescue Vehicle, Vertical Rescue Vehicle, and Confined Space Rescue Trailer.

As well as the primary function of fighting fires, Kambah has two specialist four wheel drive vehicles. The Brigade has responsibility for all vehicle rescues in the ACT and due to Kambah Fire Station's close proximity to the mountain regions around West and Southern Canberra it has a Toyota Landcruiser fitted out with Road Accident Rescue equipment for remote area rescue. The second Toyota Landcruiser carries Vertical Rescue Equipment.

The crews at Kambah are responsible for the training and maintenance of Vertical Rescue skills for all Brigade members.

West Belconnen Fire Station (No. 6)

Chisholm Fire Station (No. 7)

Opened: 15 October 1986 by the Hon Gordon Scholes, Minister for Territories
Vehicles: Scania Pumper, Heavy Tanker, and Light Tanker

Chisholm's main appliance is a Scania pumper with mid-mounted Darley pump. The station members also cross-crew a Mercedes water tanker and a Toyota light unit for the Bushfire Season. Chisholm's main area of response is the surrounding suburbs and the Hume Industrial Estate. They are second response to Fyshwick industrial area. The other area of responsibility is the support of Phillip Fire Station at major chemical and dangerous substance spills.

Chisholm Fire Station is in close proximity to the Monaro Highway which, during the winter season, has a marked increase of road traffic travelling to the snow fields. They are responsible for the Highway all the way south to the ACT/NSW border.

Greenway Fire Station (No. 8)

Areas of responsibilty for Greenway are the surrounding suburbs, the township of Tharwa and south to the ACT border through the Namadgi National Park. Tharwa is Canberra's southernmost "suburb".
