The ACT Fire Brigade is one of the most versatile Fire services in Australia in terms of delivery of services to the community.

All firefighters in the ACT are fully trained in all areas of firefighting, rescue and hazardous materials handling. We provide a 24/7 rapid response capability from 9 strategically located Fire Stations.

Following the disastrous bushfires of January 2003, the ACT Fire Brigade has been working closely with both the community and the Government to deliver a number of initiatives aimed at better preparing for another serious threat. "Community Fire Units" are a prime example of this cooperative relationship, with groups of residents now provided equipment and training to help defend against bushfire attack.

Stay safe, stay alive this winter

Minister for Police and Emergency Services Simon Corbell today joined the ACT Fire Brigade in strongly urging all Canberrans to ensure they take steps to avoid a house fire during the colder months in the Territory.

"Last winter the ACT Fire Brigade attended 55 structure fires across Canberra during the three months of winter, which equates to an approximately five house fires a week," Mr Corbell said.

"Many of these fires could have been prevented if the appropriate precautions had been taken, avoiding unnecessary heartache and damage for Canberra families."
