Snowy Hydro SouthCare

The Snowy Hydro SouthCare helicopter provides emergency aero-medical rescue and retrieval services to the ACT and south eastern region of New South Wales. Snowy Hydro SouthCare is a joint initiative of the ACT Ambulance Service and the Ambulance Service of NSW, operated by the ACT and South East NSW Aero-Medical Service Ltd.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare has participated in over 3100 emergency cases since commencing operations on 1st October 1998. The most publicised being the 1998 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race which has been recognised as the largest Search and Rescue mission ever undertaken in Australian maritime history.

Snowy Hydro SouthCare is operated on a day-to-day basis by the ACT Ambulance Service. It is staffed by:

Intensive Care Paramedics from the ACT Ambulance Service
Flight crew (pilot & crewman) by CHC Helicopters and
Medical Retrieval Specialist from the Shock Trauma Service at The Canberra Hospital.
